Bicycle commuting

How can you combine recreation, transportation, and exercise into one package? By riding your bike to work, of course!

Location: Mons, Hainaut, Belgium

I lived in Okinawa, Japan from 2000-2007 where I worked as an elementary school music specialist. Currently I'm assigned as an elementary school librarian at a NATO base in Belgium.

I've enjoyed commuting in Okinawa these past seven years. I've gotten what is apparently a dream transfer to Europe, specifically to Belgium. I'll be about twenty miles from the French border. Belgium and the Netherlands have a reputation of being bicycle Meccas. I hope to continue riding throughout my middle and later years. I want to take my commuting to the next level, using either a heavy duty trailer or Xtracycle.

Though I'm in no way suited to be a racer, I do enjoy watching the Tour de France, much like a person who likes cars might enjoy NASCAR. This year's Tour went through a couple of Belgian towns.

"My favorite enterprises to fund are bicycle shops." I saw your Kiva profile today & that we were on the same current loan to a bicycle shop in Tanzania as well as on a previous loan to a bike shop in Ecuador (you were on his first loan, I'm on the second). There is another loan to a bike shop in Vietnam that is a group loan listed as just "Retail". Thought you might be interested.
